How will I meet my fundraising obligation?
NOVA has set up several easy ways to help families meet their fundraising goals. These include Scrip, Kroger cards, the annual Swim-A-Thon, and Virginia Diner peanut sales.
Kroger Cards
The Kroger Cares Fundraising Program has been hugely successful so far. All you have to do is purchase a Kroger gift card in the Swim Shop for $5. You can use your card to purchase $5 worth of groceries at Kroger stores. You can then add money to your card ("reload" your card) and use your card every time you buy groceries at Kroger to support NOVA. The serial number on your card is linked to NOVA's account at Kroger. Every four weeks, Kroger reviews NOVA's account and sends a check to NOVA for 5 percent of the money that has been "reloaded" on the cards. So, 5 percent of the money you spend on groceries goes straight to NOVA to help you reach your fundraising obligation for the year! You can reload your card at the Customer Service desk at any Kroger or you can ask a cashier to reload it before you check out with groceries. You can pay with cash, use a debit card, or a use a credit card to reload your Kroger card. You can come by the office any time to see how much money you have raised so far for NOVA just by buying groceries!
Shop with Scrip
Scrip is a gift card program where NOVA purchases gift cards from the Great Lakes Scrip Center at a substantial discount and then resells the gift cards to families for full face value. The discount, which varies with each participating retailer but can be anywhere from 2 to 15 percent or more, goes to NOVA as part of your fundraising obligation. You simply order your gift cards online from www.shopwithscrip.com. They have cards from hundreds of different places, such as itunes.com, amazon.com, Target, Barnes and Nobel, Best Buy, Macy's, Marriott hotels, restaurants, gas stations, etc. You can get all your gift cards in one place!
Directions for buying Scrip:

5. Print your order confirmation page and bring it to the office (or the red "team payments" box) with a check for the total price of your order.
Please bring in a check within a day or two of placing your order. Allison will submit the orders on Monday afternoon after she has received all the checks, and the cards should be delivered before Friday afternoon. You can pick up all the gift cards you ordered in the Swim Shop.
Consider using scrip when doing your holiday gift shopping this winter. For those who travel often, consider buying Marriott or other hotel gift cards so NOVA can benefit every time you are away from home for a night.
Annual Swim-A-Thon
NOVA holds an annual Swim-A-Thon every spring, and it has traditionally been our largest fundraising endeavor. Every swimmer, from first year Novice kids to the veteran Senior group swimmers, is invited to come in and swim as many laps of the pool as they can one Saturday morning in the spring. Kids are encouraged to send out letters to get relatives, friends, and neighbors to support them in their swims and raise money for NOVA. T-shirts are given out to participants, and prizes are awarded to those swimmers who raise a significant amount of money. Specific information is given out to all parents and swimmers far in advance of the Swim-A-Thon date so everyone can be prepared.
Virginia Diner Peanut Sales
The Annual Virginia Diner Fundraiser is done in the fall. Parents and swimmers can pick up order forms at NOVA and place orders for peanuts and other goodies for themselves and friends and family. 50% of the proceeds go to NOVA and count toward your fundraising commitment!
As you read through the fundraising options below, please allow us to point out that when using Shop with Scrip program and Kroger’s Reloadable Gift Cards, you will receive a percentage (%) of what you spend and that will go toward your fundraising obligation. For example, if you purchase a $100 Home Depot card through GLSC and it contributes 3% to NOVA, $3.00 will go toward your fundraising obligation. Kroger is always a 5% contribution to NOVA. We also have the Virginia Diner Fundraiser that goes on in the Fall right before Thanksgiving and Christmas. NOVA recieves nearly 50% of the Sales.
Thank you for supporting NOVA and being an intregal part of this team!
KROGER CARDS
NOVA will start selling Kroger Cards in the Virginia Swim Shop. The serial number on the card you purchase is linked to NOVA’s account at Kroger.
(Note that other Kroger gift cards will not be linked to NOVA.) You have to purchase it from a NOVA representative to be sure the card is linked to the NOVA account.
The card will cost $5.00 and can be "reloaded" up to $500.00 at a time. NOVA will track your donations by the serial number on your card and your name which will be recorded at the time of purchase.
To support NOVA on an ongoing basis, add money to your card (“reload” your card) and then use your card each
time you buy groceries at Kroger. Use it at any Kroger or Kroger Affiliate across the US, including purchases at
Kroger gas stations. You can add money to your card (“reload” your card) at the Customer Service desk at Kroger
or you can ask a cashier to “reload” your card (before you check out with groceries).
When “reloading” your card, you can pay with cash, use a debit card or use a credit card. When paying for
groceries with your card, you will still use your Kroger Plus card to get Kroger specials. Every four weeks,
Kroger reviews NOVA’s account and sends either a statement and or check for 5% of the money that has
been “reloaded” onto the cards.
•Summary: Each week (or once a month), when you go to any Kroger, stop at the service desk and “ reload” your
card with the amount you usually spend in a week (or month) then simply use your card to pay for your groceries.
Have the satisfaction that you are helping NOVA and yourself every time you “reload” your card with money.
